The Gingerbread Man Information
The Gingerbread Man
At Riverside, we follow lead practitioner Pie Corbett's Literacy Initiative 'Talk for Writing'. Talk for Writing encourages and supports children to use spoken language in order to support their writing skills. In the Early Years, children learn the story through oral rehearsal accompanied by a storyboard and actions. The storyboard is a series of images (similar to a comic) that help the children to remember the sequence of the story through visuals (what they can see). The addition of actions further supports the children to fully absorb the content and pattern of the story.
We based our morning's learning around the story and had lots of fun making play dough gingerbread men, collaging, cutting and practising our scissor skills, baking and decorating ginger bread, re-enacting the story through role play and the use of puppets.
