Sport Premium

Please read the information below which gives details of our PE and Sport Premium Grant and how we allocate the funding.

PE and Sport play a very important part in the life of our school. We believe that physical education and sport contribute to the holistic development of young people and, through participation in sport and physical education, young people learn more about key values such as teamwork, fair play and respect for themselves and others.

There is significant evidence to show the positive effects of sport and exercise on children’s physical health, growth and development. Furthermore, sport also provides a healthy environment for young people to learn how to deal with competition and how to cope with both winning and losing.

In Summer 2013, the Government announced new funding (Sport Premium) which aims to improve the quality and breadth of PE and sport provision in all schools, across the UK. The funding is based on an annual allocation.

The government has chosen to invest in Primary School Physical Education and School Sport for 2017-2018. They have done this by offering each primary school £16,000 plus £5 per pupil to be spent in any way the school thinks best to improve the teaching and learning of PE and School Sport in their individual school.

Riverside receives £16,000 sports premium funding. Our total sports spend for 2016-2017 was £8,230.44p.

The funding is being used to provide high quality PE lessons with specialist coaches and teachers, training for teachers, and extra curricular activities, both at lunchtime and after school.
