Water Filtration experiment 27th March

As part of our 'Africa' topic, we have been learning about the importance of clean water.

Did you know that 4/10 of the world's population does not have access to a toilet? We found it hard to imagine what our home, garden and school would be like with no toilets! We learnt about the risk of cholera and other awful diseases.

We have been introduced to the charity called, 'Toilet Twinning' and we are looking forward to raising money in the Summer Term to help those around the world have access to a toilet.

Following this, we had our own turn at filtering water. We poured muddy water through different materials to see which acted as the best filter. We tried: dish cloth, sand, gravel and cotton wool. Overall, we found sand was the best filter although cotton wool was also effective!
