Welcome to Saplings Nursery Class!
Dear parents/carers
Welcome to our Nursery Class, and for those of you who are new to the school, to Riverside Primary School and Nursery! We hope that you are as excited as we are to begin our year together.
As your Class Teacher I am supported by Mrs Parvez. You will be informed individually who is your Key Person, they will help guide you and support you in your learning.
This is your class page and is one place where we celebrate all the amazing things that we have been experiencing, exploring and achieving. Please check ClassDojo where we share important dates and information along with pictures of all the fun and learning we are having.

Start of Term 1

- Nursery Open for All Children - Monday 7th September

- Start of Term 2 - Monday 2nd November
Children need a bag of named spare clothes in school every day, along with a pair of wellington boots. Please make sure that all items of clothing are clearly labelled!
Our nursery communicates and shares regular photos of our learning and play experiences with our families using ClassDojo.
When you join our nursery you will be given a QR code to register. ClassDojo allows us to send information about key events that are happening, share pictures and communicate with our families via a messaging system.

Meet Nelly the dog and our Chickens
Our School Dog and the Chickens
At Riverside Primary School and Nursery, we are very lucky to have a school dog (Nelly) who comes in once a week to see all the children. If we are lucky Nelly will come and visit us in nursery. We enjoy reading stories with Nelly or taking her on a walk.
In the Early Years garden, we currently have 2 chickens and a cockerel. The children have named them: Stitch, Uno and Ginger. Stitch is a very noisy cockerel and we lovely hearing the different noises he makes. Uno and Ginger have started laying eggs and we enjoy taking it in turns collecting the eggs to see how many we can collect each week. Just before the Easter holidays we collect enough eggs to make some omelets which tasted delicious.
RWI - Fred will help your child learn their sounds and begin to blend
RWI Phonics
At Riverside we use Read Write Inc to teach our children how to read and write. In nursery, we explore oral blending and teach single sounds (Set 1). Below are some oral blending videos with Elly and Fred. If you click on the RWI Phonics crayon you will find the Set 1 sounds that we have looked at in nursery.
