At Riverside, we teach a high-quality physical education curriculum that inspires pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically-demanding activities. We provide opportunities for our pupils to become physically confident in a way that supports their health and fitness. At Riverside, we encourage pupils to compete in sport (inter and intra school competitions) and other activities that support them to build character and help them to embed values such as fairness and respect.

The national curriculum for physical education aims to ensure that all pupils:

• Develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities;
• Are physically active for sustained periods of time;
• Engage in competitive sports and activities;
• Lead healthy, active lives.

In addition to curriculum time, pupils are encouraged to take part in active play through the climbing frame, adventure trail and netball, basketball and football zoned areas at break and lunchtimes.
