  • Year 5 and 6 Netball Match against Holyport Primary School

Thu 27 Feb 2020 Jacqui Barnes

Well done to the Netball team this evening, a valiant attempt was made by them on an adapted netball court today and I am so very proud of their resilience and enthusiasm and yet again fast passing!!

Safia was named player of the match and without her and Amaan in defence the final score would have been alot higher!!!

In the first quarter it was 1-1, the second quarter it was 2-1 to Holyport, in the third quarter it was still 2-1 which was down to our brilliant defending! And the final quarter was 3-1 to Holyport.  It was a truly lovely game of netball where the spirit of the game was on display constantly.  The netball team have come a huge way and are improving all the time through playing some challenging sides so well done to you all, I couldn't be more proud of you all!

Well done to Fahtima, Vaania, Hafsa, Ezzah, Charlotte, Safia, Sumaiya, Amaan A, Haleema, and Diya, we still have some changes to make to make our team be the strongest it can be......

  • Year 1 and 2 Cricket Skills Competition at Desborough College

Thu 27 Feb 2020 Jacqui Barnes

Wow what an amazing start to the term!

We had our second competition of the year for Year 1 and 2 at Desborough College today and what a great time we had!!!!

The children had four stations that they had to participate in, one was rolling the balls in the other schools area, they then used a bat to control the ball and go to the other side of the sports hall, then they had a game of knocking the wickets over ( which they really enjoyed ) and finally rolling the ball to their partner through the planets.  The winning team was Wessex School but I have to say Mrs Atkins and myself   believe  that Riverside  was a winning team too through their effort and enthusiasm whilst we were there and even on the way back to Riverside when we walked back....

Well done to Rumaysa, Julia, AbdulHadi, Storm, Ryan, Khalid, Abdulbasit, Zaki, Arslan, Miley, Harini and Nitsa, you were truly amazing and a pleasure to take!!  Thank you to parents for their help with lifts to the event and thank you to Mr Weeks for helping with another lift.

We had a lovely afternoon and by the end of the event, we certainly saw an improvement in their rolling and catching skills.  Well done team Riverside!

  • Thanks to Hasbro Headquarters and Donna and her team

Thu 06 Feb 2020 Jacqui Barnes

A massive thank you to our Year 5 Sports Ambassadors who have really embraced their role in school by helping with clubs at lunchtime and helping deliver messages to staff and helping keep the balls pumped up so that they are ready for lessons.  Sahil, Eisa and Charlotte have been instrumental in helping other children in school so  a big thank you to them.

With this thanks, I and the rest of the Riverside pupils would like to thank Donna and her team at Hasbro Headquarters for their generous donation of toys to the school and we look forward to distributing these lovely games to the other classes.  See the Sports Ambassadors with all the lovely toys Riverside have been gifted with.

Well done Team Riverside, a cracking good game of netball was played by our Riverside netball teamt this afternoon, it was a tough opposition but that did not deter the team to carry on !!  They were amazing and we have had some tough games recently  and very fast players today  but fast players is something we do equally well in!

In the first quarter, we were losing 3-0, second quarter we were losing 4-0 but we had a switch around at half time and went onto the score being 6-3 and in the final quarter it was 8-4 to Holy Trinity and it was such a great fast paced and thoroughly exciting game, well done to Ezzah who was Player of the Match and well done to the rest of Team Riverside, Safia, Amaan, Sumaiya, Haleema, Vaania, Fahtima, and Diya and thank you to our supporters too, Fahtima, Diya and Vaania's mummy, great to have your support.

  • Year 5 and 6 Netball Match against St Edmund Campian Primary School A team

Thu 30 Jan 2020 Jacqui Barnes
Our first match of 2020 and what a match it was!!   St Edmund Campian were like giants as they walked onto the netball court today but Riverside team rallied hard and when at half term we were losing 6-0, they were motivated to continue and we went onto score 3 goals in the second half of the game to finally lose the game 12-3 but they tried tirelessly to get the ball back into the attacking circle.  Well done to the team and well done to our player of the match who was Amaan, well done to the rest of the team, Ezzah, Safia, Hafsah, Sumaiya, Haleema, Charlotte, Vaania, Diya and Fahtima.  We have made some changes to our team this match and are working on our positioning in the next couple of practices.

Wow another fabulous afternoon of motivated and independent Riverside children, they were very excited to start off and were so excited about going to Newlands, we had a wonderful afternoon and the Year 4's really worked hard to improve on their running, jumping or throwing events, we even had an Ex - Riverside student look after us as soon as we got there, we were in very safe hands!!!

Well done to Team Riverside, not only did we improve on our scores but we came first in a few events and all the children gave 100% effort in all areas.  Well done to Owais, Nor-Aldeen, Joel, Ibrahim, Algar, Mustapha, Bilal, Elif, Madeeha, Zaina, Sara, Zainab, Jana, Reina, Hiba and Joella.  You were great Ambassadors for the school.

  • Year 5 and 6 Sports Hall Athletics Competition at Newland's Girls School

Thu 23 Jan 2020 Jacqui Barnes

It was my great pleasure to take mostly year 6's and a few year 5's to the Sports Hall  Athletics Competition at Newland's this afternoon  and I have to say our children were demonstrating the school value of being motivated to do well, they really were a pleasure to take and all of them tried really hard to do the best they could in each event they were in, although we did not win, we did manage to compete against  about 140 of the best children from other schools in the Partnership and you can see what a great time they all had from some of the attached photos.  They took part in various relays, track and field events and it was exciting and very loud from start to finish.

Well done Fahtima,Sumaiya, Safia, Umaymah, Vaania, Ezzah, Arfa, Haleema, Zainab, Murtaza, Amaan A and Amaan I, Salman, Eisa, Saqib and Ameen and thank you for making it such a lovely afternoon.

  • HASBRO/SOGB Be Fearless, Be Kind Primary Unified Basketball Draw

Thu 12 Dec 2019 Jacqui Barnes

Wow what another great day for our children from Year 5 who went to Wexham Secondary School to play in a Basketball draw against other Primary Schools as a follow up to the meeting we had at Hasbro Headquarters. I have to say yet again the children made me feel incredibly proud from start to finish, they had an amazing time and what was so lovely was that for it was a first competition for one of our children and for the others it was to let them continue their work on Being Fearless and Being Kind and Sports Ambassadors. Sahil received a special award for his work on Being Fearless and Being Kind and told everyone (well over 50 people of differing ages there) what work we have been doing at school since we last visited Hasbro.

Hasbro gave each child a bag of toys at the end of the competition and all the children had a new tshirt and a medal, it was a really wonderful event and I was so proud of their performance during the game.  A very big well done to Sahil, Charlotte, Eisa, Zaara, Samriddh, Maryam and Mustafa and thank you for making these events such a privilege  to take these wonderful children.

We are hoping that the children will remember to bring in their medals and t - shirts to tell the other children and spread the word of the Special Olympics even more.......

  • Year 5 and 6 Netball Match V Courthouse Junior School

Thu 28 Nov 2019 Jacqui Barnes

A very big well done to the Netball team today!  They worked really hard  and showed great resilience against Courthouse Junior School as they were a very tough team, not only were they tall but they were very fast and skilled in footwork and dodging to get the ball.  We lost 10 -1 but I have to say,  credit to the team as they did not give up and had they not defended as well as they did the score could have easily been alot higher!

Well done to Hafsah as Captain and also player of the match, well done to Fahtima, Safia, Vaania, Ezzah, Sumaiya, Haleema and  Charlotte.  We will be getting some training in over the next couple of weeks before our next match in January where we will be working on our attacking strategy!

Thank you to Belle for your umpiring skills and to Fahtima's mummy for helping with the refreshments and Fahtima for help clearing up at the end of the match, you are awesome!!
