  • The Ascot and Maidenhead School Sports Partnership Year 5 and 6 Netball Tournament at Furze Platt Senior School

Tue 12 Nov 2019 Jacqui Barnes

Another thrilling competition on the Netball courts at Furze Platt Senior School was tackled by the Year 5 and 6 Netball team today, the girls were very excited to be participating and representing Riverside today.....

There were 15 teams there and there were 3 pools, we were on Court 3 and had to play against St Lukes ( a win for us 7-0) and St Edmund Campian ( another win for us 4-0 ), we then lost 1-0 against Lowbrook A team and our last game was against Oldfield and they beat us narrowly by 3-1.   This meant that we got through to the next round and we ended up playing against St Edmund Campian A and lost by a small margin, final score Riverside 2, St Edmund 3.  Our girls showed resilience and a desire to go further but sadly on this occasion we did not get to play any more games but I have to say they did really well to get where they did, the final results will be sent to us but we came back to school with our heads held high and proud of our achievements today.  Well done team Riverside, a great result and well done to Sumaiya for being captain and to the rest of the team for excellent play.. Well done also to Charlotte, Ezzah, Vaania, Safia, Hafsah and Haleema some really great moments of good netball.

  • Year 1 and 2 Pillow Polo Festival at Newland's Secondary School, Thursday 17 October

    Thu 17 Oct 2019 J Barnes

What a wonderful afternoon at Newland's Secondary School, this was a first festival for some of our children this afternoon and what a credit to the school they really were, Miss Porter and myself were amazed at the excitedness of our children and they looked oh so smart in our new Competition polo shirts, we can literally spot our children wherever we go now as they look so smart...

We started the afternoon off with pushing the balls with the pillow polo sticks to get used to how to hold the sticks, this was a completely new festival for us to go to and the children got stuck into it quickly before they got caught by Olaf! They then went onto another station where they aimed at the goal area and cones and then in the last station they had to weave through the other players who were polar bears.

They then went onto play a game against St Marys and drew 0-0 and then went onto win against Furze Platt Junior School with a winning goal from Corey!!  Well done team.

Well done to Afsar, Emiko, Yusraa, Sahil, Corey, Killian, Abdul Raheem and Rameez, all children will receive a certificate and should be pleased with how they performed in the game situation.

  • Year 5 and 6 Netball Match against St Edmund Campian

    Thu 03 Oct 2019 J Barnes

Well another lovely game of netball was had by our team today and it is always so nice to have a home game, I think the children definitely showed they were in their comfort zone and really have shown great movement on court and some fast passing.

The first quarter was 6-0 to Riverside, followed by 10-1 in the second quarter.  On the third quarter, the score was 14-1 and the final quarter was 17-1, another outstanding victory to Riverside, Charlotte and Ezzah worked really well together and were helped out by the rest of the team, Vaania, Haleema, Sumaiya, Safia, Fahtima and superb defending from Amaan A and Hafsah.  Once again thanks to the parents that came and saw the rest of the match, I know the children loved having some support!

We have another match next week so watch this space for further details!!!

Let Ezzah and Charlotte tell you about their new shooting technique.  Well done Charlotte for Player of the Match and well done to Safia for being a great captain!

Wow, wow, wow what an amazing start to the term and to our first netball match  of the season!

An amazing start indeed, we played against St Mary’s and won 22-0, I was so proud of the whole team, they passed quickly and accurately and worked so cooperatively as a team but their knowledge and application of the footwork rule was outstanding!

Well done to Charlotte for getting nominated as Player of the Match and well done to Amaan who recently joined our team. The rest of the team played really well and played their socks off, so well done to Safia, Ezzah, Sumaiya, Fahtima, Vaania and Hafsah.  Haleema showed determination to play throughout but due to injury couldn’t play.  She was an excellent scorer and official photographer.  Thanks to the parents who came to support and to some ex Riverside children too!

  • Year 3 and 4 Girls Football team play Braywick Court School

Mon 15 Jul 2019 Jacqui Barnes

    So so so........

After such an epic weekend for British sport, I wanted to be the first to tell you of our first Year 3 and 4 Girls Football team friendly match against Braywick Court School, we had a fabulous first game and it was the first time that the girls had played together as a team and we had a last minute addition to the team, thank you Lithanya!

The girls had a fabulous game, we had 15 minutes for each half and we had a hat-trick from Hiba and Diya scored too, leaving us with a final score of 4-1!   As goal keeper,Zaina saved some amazing penalties  and attempts at goal, well done to all the girls involved, it was so nice to have support from all the families and I can safely say that their confidence grew throughout the 30 minutes, so thank you to all the families for your support.  Hiba gets a special mention as she was voted by Braywick Court as Player of the match.

Well done to team Riverside, a great way to finish our fixtures this year and a great starting point for November! Laila made a great captain too, thank you.

Well done to Lily, Diya, Laila, Hiba, Zaina, Daania and Lithanya, you should be very pleased with your first match and onwards and upwards for September, make sure you train in the holidays!!

  • Year 5 and 6 Kwik Cricket at North Maidenhead Cricket Club

Thu 04 Jul 2019 Jacqui Barnes

Our last School Sports Competition for the Ascot and Maidenhead School Sports Partnership and what a scorcher of a competition it was!!

We played against Courthouse ( they won against us) and Larchfield ( we won against them) and although we didn't get in the first four placings, Mrs Duckworth assured me that the children showed some brilliant batting and bowling skills and ones that our children should be very proud of...  The competition was in a beautiful setting and well done to the team who had a really good time, well done Hafsah, Anum, Ezzah, Joshua, Ibrahim, Abdual-Sami, Sami, Hashim, Idris and Amaan A.

Here's hoping we will improve on our placings next year!

Below are some photos of the event.....
